The DEFINITY Image

MarcyThe value of a digital film recorder stands and falls with one thing: the quality of the motion picture images it records, one hundred per cent of the time. DEFINITY has been designed to deliver the very same image quality you have come to expect from considerably more expensive systems. This has been achieved through a meticulous observance of the highest industry standards.

  • Color

Color FidelityThe photonic engineering that went into DEFINITY closes the physical gap between the color spaces of video and film to the highest extent possible: an RGB filter system with an extremely sharp spectral cut-off, a tri-phosphor fluorescent light source with a very wide gamut, yet with its spectral curve carefully adapted to the photochemical characteristics of both camera negatives and intermediate films. This allows both supersaturated colors and finely nuanced hues, some of them difficult to achieve even on laser systems.

  • Contrast

ContrastContrast on film means density, and DEFINITYs ultra-high dynamic range LCD technology allows densities of well beyond D2.0 above D-min, if required, without any of the phosphor flare frequently associated with overdriven tubes. In Digital Intermediate all highlights from the critical original material can be preserved, for example active light sources in indoor shots.

  • Definition

DefinitionDEFINITY's ultra-high-resolution LCD and its anamorphic lens system combine to deliver an exceptional sharpness that extends into the outmost corners of the negative due to the total flatness of the LCD imager. Unique anamorphic pixels record CinemaScope at up to 6K horizontal resolution: A 4K widescreen image undergoes an anamorphic squeeze on the fly, preserving 100 per cent of the original image information. Spatial frequency algorithms dramatically improve the perceived sharpness of footage with lower native resolutions.

  • Repeatability

RepeatabilityA motion picture image is only as good as the frames before and after. DEFINITY avoids flickering, color shifts, burn-in or changes in geometry due to the very fundamentals of its LCD technology, doing away with many of the problems associated with CRT technology. The fluorescent light source adds a high degree of stability in chromaticity and luminosity, reducing the need for recalibrations.
